Wight Walking Weekend

Wednesday, 20th August, 2008 at 3:27 pm, Isle of Wight

24, October 2008to27, October 2008

It might have seemed like October already this week with the stormy weather, but it is in fact still a couple of months away. Something you can look forward to doing in October but plan now, is taking part in the Wight Walking Weekend.

Auntie P Walks The WightAs part of the Isle of Wight Walking Festival, this October sees nearly 50 accompanied and guided walks, take place on the Wight.

There’ll even be the ‘world-famous’ speed-dating walk, so if you haven’t taken part before and are looking for an interesting way to meet other single people, make sure you book onto this one. There have been many relationships borne out of the walks, including marriages.

We have over 500 miles of footpaths on the Wight and 60 miles of Heritage World-class Coastline.

We’re told that since it began in 1999, the Isle of Wight Walking Festival has grown to become the biggest event of its kind in the UK with a record 270 walks and 24,500 walkers, including 7000 visitors from mainland UK and overseas.

Elaine Cesar, Isle of Wight Council events officer, said:

“This 4-day version of the walking festival will focus on the most popular walks which are suitable for all abilities and give visitors the chance to enjoy the seasonal changes that autumn brings to the Island’s picturesque landscape - on foot.”

“With around 47 individual events held over the long-weekend, walkers can expect a mini-version of the May event, including a Meditative Walk, a Wild Food Walk, Nordic Walking plus the chance to meet like-minded people on another speed-dating walk – which has already resulted in 2 ‘Wight’ wedding with a third planned this year.”

The full programme of walks is available online
