Who Wants to Play At Bestival?

Yes, the headline is true, for all your unsigned musicians and DJS out there, here’s your chance to play at the queen of festivals this year.

If you’re up for a challenge – because it will be - get your derrieres in gear and transfer your talent onto a CD and pop it in the post pronto.

As you know, I’m a fan of many local bands, but will be sticking my vote on Ventnor lads, Cosmic Debris. How loopy would it be for them to perform at Bestival? Not sure on their exact ages but think most of the band are around 13-14 years old. They’ve got an amazing amount of enthusiasm for their music and it spills out into their performance.

cosmic debrisVentnor also has it fair share of DJs and if you want a chance for a DJ spot at Bestival, do the same and send in a CD of a recent fully mixed set.

Main man Rob will be choosing his five favourite IOW bands and DJs to take part in the 2006 Bestival Island Band and DJ Comp.

This results in a grand battle at The Venue @ Ryde Theatre on Wednesday 19th July 2006 in front of head honchos.

Send your CDs to:

Bestival - 2006 Island Band & DJ Competition
Bestival Office
Studio 10
25 Denmark Street
London
WC2H 8NJ

Get your CDs in by Thursday 22nd June but don’t expect it back.

Thanks to Victoria for the shot of Cosmic Debris above. From the left, James Thorpe, lead guitar, Robert Berry, drums, Sean Barker, rhythm, Samsun Lawson, bass.

I’d second your opinion on this Sal. Graeme Barker should have some pics for them, and I think you have one too, you took when they performed at Ventnor Youth Centre???

They are booked to play at v.Fest

  2. Andrew Thorpe Says:

    Dear Sal,

We are the parents of Jamie Thorpe lead guitarist with Cosmic Debris. We have a very good photograph which was taken at the Youth Club and published in the County Press. You should find it by Googling James Thorpe Isle of Wight. Otherwise, we can let you have a copy. They are playing at the Crab Fayre on Monday 4.30 - 5 (weather permitting) and we shall be taking further photos then, I hope. We are in the phone book if you would like to call. Kind regards, Andrew and Victoria

  3. Sal Says:
Cheers for that, will sort out an image and look forward to seeing them play on Monday.

[...] You might remember that back in May our friends at Bestival HQ announced a fantastic opportunity for unsigned bands to play at Bestival 06. [...]
