White Air 2008: A Great Success
Sunday, 21st September, 2008 at 9:16 pm, Isle of Wight
A huge well done to Nigel Howell and his team for pulling off yet another, massively successful White Air Extreme Sports Festival on the Isle of Wight.
We were hoping to file updates over the weekend, but ended up being so busy actually interviewing etc, that we didn’t get time to do that. We will however, be bringing you some great videos, podcasts and photos over the coming weeks.
We’re told the festival attracted over 10,000 visitors throughout the weekend, with more than 2,500 people taking the opportunity to ‘Have a Go’, trying out some of the brilliant extreme sports on offer.
The Red Arrows display two days in a row was a fantastic treat for the South Coast of the Island and the music a great addition to the atmosphere of the event.
The success of the festival is testament to the hard work and dedication of Nigel and his team. Well done to you all - you deserve a very large pat on the back.

Sorry to go off topic but I am looking at relocating to upper ventnor and seen a great property however I have been told it is a landslip area and wondered how frequent this accured and how high is the risk

I believe that there is a fault line that goes down through upper to lower Ventnor. You can see the damage on the switchback just above the fish and chip shop on the corner of Gills Cliff and Ocean View Rds. My understanding is that properties to the left and right by a certain distance are ok, but I might be wrong. You could contact the Coastal Visitors Centre - they should be able to help. Hope that helps and good luck with your house purchase.

There was a full geological survey of stability in Ventnor a few years ago, in which the then Coastal Manager Robin McInnes was heavily involved, so Michael is probably right to suggest the Coastal Centre as the first port of call - they are sure to have a copy of the elaborately produced report, full of maps and diagrams. I have a copy myself somewhere, if only I could find it.

What has this got to do with Wight Air?
But to carry on the “off-topic” thread. You can purchase a copy of the 1995 report to which watchdog refers. From memory it was about £17 and is called ” The Undercliff of the Isle of Wight”, published by Cross Publishing.
Watchdog is also correct in stating that Robin McInnes and High Point Rendel were heavily involved.
But don’t let that put you off!
BTW Wight Air was fantastic as usual. Well done NH.
