VOLUNTEERS WANTED TO IMPROVE RIGHTS OF WAY ACCESS

Monday, 31st March, 2008 at 10:57 am, Isle of Wight

ARE you passionate about maintaining and improving access to the Isle of Wight’s beautiful countryside?

Well, now’s your chance to get involved by becoming a member of the Isle of Wight Local Access Forum.

The forum meets four times a year and discusses issues which help to improve resident’s and visitor’s access to our stunning Island landscapes.

And the forum is currently looking to fill three vacancies in its 22-strong membership.

Applicants should have an interest in public rights of way or the countryside, either as a user, as a land manager or owner or otherwise have an interest that is relevant to the forum.

Councillor Tim Hunter Henderson Isle of Wight Council cabinet member for the environment said: “The Isle of Wight has over 500 miles of maintained footpaths - many of which are in areas of outstanding natural beauty.

“Maintaining public access to these rights of way is vitally important so that they can be enjoyed by visitors and residents alike both now and in the future.”

Applications should be returned by Friday, May 2.

Application forms can be obtained from Lee Skinner, Coastal Visitors Centre, Dudley Road, Ventnor.
