VentnorBlog: 4 Times the Web Traffic of the County Press Site

Saturday, 19th April, 2008 at 7:25 pm, Isle of Wight

We’re really proud to give you an update on VentnorBlog’s traffic levels - translated into English, how many people have been looking at VentnorBlog.

VentnorBlog: 4 Times the Web Traffic of the County Press SiteHaving started VentnorBlog as a bit of light fun, it’s grown over the past two and a bit odd years (some odder than others!), into this time-eating monster that we’re really proud to say, has resulted into a site that appears to have been embraced by Islanders, ex-Islanders and visitors alike.

You may have noticed last week the Isle of Wight County Press disclosed (for the first time we’ve noticed) how many hits they’re getting on their Website on a monthly basis.

To say it made us smile, is somewhat of an understatement.

They’re clearly pleased with themselves that they get ‘over 450,000 hits a month.’

We’re very proud to tell you that last month, for example, we had over 2,000,000 hits. That’s four times the figure that the County Press are talking about.

That’s not all folks!
Not only that, but we’re told that the County Press is selling around 38k copies of their paper a week.

It’s with great humility that we tell you that over 34,000 of you lovely people are visiting VB on a weekly basis.

Yes - that’s very nearly the same number that are buying the County Press.

Mad isn’t it?

Thank you
Gracious thanks for your support to date - as the old saying goes, we couldn’t have done it without you.

We’ll do our best at trying to keep you informed of things that are relevant to the Island.

If there’s some thing that you think that we’re not covering on VentnorBlog, please get in touch and we’ll see if we can get it included.

Thanks again - and much love from VentnorBlog.

    CONGRATULATIONS !!!
Dave & Vav Simon at Transition Island

  2. Wendy Says:

    Well done Sal and Simon!

  3. bornhere Says:

Well done, VB is 10-times more informative, and far more honest than the CP as well.

  4. steve s Says:

    Hearty congrats, guys.
Isn’t it about time you published a rate card for advertisers? ;-)

  5. lin Says:

well done dont know how you do it the work involved must be so much , i dont buy the c.p. anymore i just use the blog!

  6. Farmersboy Says:

And you don’t get silly arguments about the wearing/non wearing of ties on the blog, still CP has got to fill it’s pages with something

  7. L Pinkerton Says:

Well done everyone. This is the only true community blog on the Island, apparently also serving the World. Most importantly it recognises THE TRUTH that Ventnor is the centre of the thinking persons universe.

I agree with Farmersboy - the standard of argument is way above the IW Council’s Forum which is largely negative and bitching in its content.

  8. Ventnor 2008 Says:

As community developers, we both live and breathe day and night, seven days a week, the knowledge of projects that make a positive difference to the town we live in.

To list all the good things that the Ventnor Blog and the Forum have done to make many of these projects the success they are, would take up pages. In some cases the projects could never have happened, without the VB and the Forum.

We feel it is humbling and inspirational that two unpaid volunteers (Sal and Simon) do so much for Ventnor and continue to do so.

Thank you so much, both of you.

    Susan and Mark

  10. James Pickett Says:

Congratulations! For some reason, it’s reminded me of a verse by Laurie Say, one-time IW College lecturer (when it was just the ‘IW Tech’) and folk club performer from the late 60’s. He wrote a song about the Island that contained the following reference to our Great Newspaper:

“The County Press prints all the local news that’s fit to write
Like Births and Deaths and Marriages, and what Woodnutt* said last night
It’s modern and unbiased and it toes no party line
But it hopes the Tories get back in, in 1869″

Nice to know some things don’t change…

*Mark Woodnutt, the then Tory MP, who was later involved in a scandal over the development of Bembridge harbour and who famously walked out of a BBC interview when quizzed about it.

  11. Judge Mental Says:

Congratulations from the legal department! Was going to say about making some dosh from adverts but Steve.S. beat me to it. I’m on North Island for a few days and the blog is a great way to keep up with goings on in Town…even if it is only about Fido pooping on the pavement! Seriously though, it is bringing to peoples’ immediate attention those matters that politicions and their ilk like to try and slip quietly past us that makes the Blog important. Keep it up.

  12. Angie Says:

Perhaps the County Press might like to pay for an ad on Ventnor Blog, boost their circulation a bit?

Although if we want up to date news we will still need to get it from VB.

Well done guys, you put so much hard work into VB no wonder it is probably the best blog in the world!

  13. Eccleston George boys Says:

Blinking Marvellous you two! Although I have to say I’m not suprised at your success, you have created I wonderful web-service which is strangely addictive. Does one go through cold turkey in order to quit the blog I wonder? Ah well who cares…..I’m happy to say I’m a user and proud of it!!

As regular visitors to your Island we would like to draw attention to visitors, and maybe Islanders themselves who may not have been to your lovely botanical gardens recently, they really are beautiful at this time of year, and the cafe is great, clean, very good food for grownups and children, and a nice easy atmosphere, one of the jewels of the Island, enjoy
