Ventnor West Election: Polling today
Thursday, 13th December, 2007 at 12:18 pm, Isle of Wight
Today is the polling day for the Ventnor West Parish election.
As you _may_ have noticed, we’ve done all we can to present all to you all of the information, including put out the profiles of all of the five candidates; opening up a Candidate’s Corner on the VB Forum; filming interviews with the five candidates, and putting them out as nine separate video pieces.

If you’re in the Ventnor West parish, and care about Ventnor, two lovely ladies will be sitting at the Winter Gardens until 10pm tonight, more than happy to help you to express you candidate preference.
As mentioned, we’ll be covering the results live tonight, so stay tuned!

Now we have seen what you can do with a camera why are you not floating a Ventnor tv station? I know it takes lot of material to fill in a full time station but perhaps a start could be a daily bulletin. This would be compiled from material, gathered the previous day.
Then individual groups/schools could provide a programme.
Technically , I am not sure whether it can be incorporated into the Ventnor Web site which is currently lying dormant and out of date, but that would be a good vehicle and already carries local advertising which could be developed.

The answer is easy Louis,
To be able to broadcast on a TV, or Radio Station, one needs to bid for a licence, the cost of which is very high.
Even those licences for community broadcasting are very expensive as the late lamented Solent TV found to their cost.
The rules for running a station are prescriptive, (as Ocean FM have just found).
Then of course, one would need to pay for access to the Chillerton transmitter.
All in all, the rules seem to exist in order to stop local people from running a local station.
What the Blog do at the present is certainly the way forward for now, (until HMG find a way to licence and tax the internet!!)

I like the Blog as it is. If I want to watch TV I’d prefer to watch professional Sky channels of which there are more than enough.
