Ventnor Skate Ramp Comes Down

Monday, 30th April, 2007 at 1:39 pm, Isle of Wight

Ventnor Skate Ramp Comes DownLast Friday the skate ramp was finally dismantled. A rather large, bright red crane arrived in Ventnor, very slowly weaving it’s way down the cascade.

We hear that it had to keep reversing to maneuver the sharp bends of the cascade, but managed to eventually reach it’s destination next to the Skate Park.

Now the debris has been taken away, the ground can be levelled, ramp repaired and returned with new equipment and the new surface installed.

Ventnor Skate Ramp Comes DownApparently some people thought that the ramp was gone for good. Fear not, the work is all part of the StreetStyle project to repair and improve the facilities at the Skate Park.

Although the project has received some funding, more cash is needed for continuing maintenance, insurance etc, so another fundraiser is being held this coming Saturday (5th May) at The Rose in Pier Street.

Ventnor Skate Ramp Comes DownTwo live bands will be playing for your pleasure. Funkaholic, a new band with Dick Taylor who’ll be doing funk and blues covers, and joining them will be Ventnor favourites, Jacuna.

Starts at 8.30 and carries on till late. £2 before 10pm, £3 after (no entry after 11pm)

Can’t the IOWC, TC and enviroment agency get to-gether to harness the power supply flowing down the cascade every second of every year. An impellor sighted in the flow conected to a generator of some kind would surely be enough to light up the skate park and maybe other parts of the eastern esplanade. I am not an electrical engineer, but if this idea was put to an expert I’m sure a salution would be found. AND AFTER THE INITIAL WORK IT WOULD NEARLY ALL BE FREE.

FB you should know by now that statements of the obvious mixed with common sense cannot possibly work!

Sorry, I could not resist that, it is I agree a ridiculous situation.

Given the amount of new building going into the Eastern Esplanade, I would have thought such a generator could be easily hidden.
