Ventnor Gets National Coverage On BBC2

Tuesday, 19th June, 2007 at 2:54 pm, Isle of Wight

All of last week, BBC2’s Working Lunch were running reports by Graeme Le Saux (the footballer) who came over to the Isle of Wight to look at our diverse collection of businesses.

On Friday we see the report when Graeme came to “Vent-Nor to find out how it is establishing itself as the food capital of the Isle of Wight.”

Ventnor Gets National Coverage On BBC2There were two films shown, the first focused on The Ventnor Fishery. Geoff Blake certainly flew the flag for Ventnor in this feature and it was very interesting to hear what he had to say about his business and it’s development. Good to see him taking the anti-Tesco stance too. Look out for the really sinister smile from one of the chaps in the fishery when he talks about how the crabs are ’slowly suffocated’.

The second feature on Friday covered the success of the Isle of Wight Cheese Company (as we’ve mentioned on the blog before) and Graeme also took a walk down to the Ventnor Brewery and had a chat with Ventnor’s very own master brewer, Xavier Baker.

You can watch all of the features on the Working Lunch website, but for those interested in Friday’s offerings, just click on the links below.

The other reports from around the Island were also worth watching. On Monday Graeme visited two boatbuilders in Cowes. On Tuesday he popped over to Ryde to speak with cosmetics queen Liz Earle and then onto Bembridge to meet plane builders, Britten-Norman.

There were plenty of shots of Ventnor in Wednesday’s programme, when Graeme went along to the Hambrough Hotel to see how the Island’s ‘Victorian’ resorts are changing with the times.

And on Thursday Graeme met Dame Ellen MacArthur. Thanks to everyone who wrote in to us about the show. It’s only been lack of time that has delayed this piece going out.

Wonderful, Its about time that local business got some respect not just constant abuse from elements of the community. Congratulations to Geoff, Cheryl and all for giving us another reason to put Ventnor (even more) on the map.

While you are on the subject of local businesses. It is possible to restart the Ventnor Market. This could be an issue for the Ventnor Enhancement fund to deal with. I envisage a Charities stall market with a mixture of some commercials. I need some support for this as it will mean approaching the county council for a permit and a costing.
we wll need to contact coach companies to see if they would stop here as they used to. They could come down Spring Hill drop off people then go round the town waitg in Albert St and come to collect them again.

I think a suggestion was made earlier. We have this question often in the Internet Centre. Quick thing I do is go to Page on the browser bar, go to Zoom and select 150%. Usually does the trick. Or you can go higher and higher on the % scale. Its a very straightforward option Louis.

    Hope that helps?

Louis, re the market question, perhaps take a little trip into the Forum and look at this thread below, I think it may be helpful. What would be good is if you could add your thinking into this particular Forum thread:
