SIXES SUCCESS FOR VENTNOR
Ventnor retained the John Hilson Memorial Trophy after a 15 run win over Ryde in the final of the Isle of Wight Cricket Board’s six a side competition on Sunday.
Batting first, Ventnor totalled 69-3 and then restricted their opponents to 54-5. The Steephill club defeated old rivals Shanklin in the semi final.
VETERANS CLINCH VICTORY OVER ASBINS!
Ventnor defeated Bagshot by 8 runs in the annual fixture at Steephill on Saturday. Mark Price hit 82 in Ventnor’s total of 178 and despite a half century from Nick Berridge, Richard Wheeler and Price took 5 wickets between them to win the match for the home team.
CENTURIES FOR BIRCHALL AND BLACKMAN
Martin Blackman thumped a season’s best 145 and John Birchall an aggressive 102 as Ventnor rattled up 379-7 in a friendly at Ryde Cavaliers on Saturday.
Alex Lloyd and Billy Clarke then took 3 wickets a piece as the home team were dismissed for 191.
HEAVY SUNDAY DEFEAT
A much weakened Ventnor side crashed to a 130 run defeat against Bashley on Sunday. Chasing a total of 250, the home team could only manage 120 in reply.
