Ventnor Brewery Win Beer of the Year: For The Fifth Time

Monday, 7th August, 2006 at 4:21 pm, Isle of Wight

Golden Bitter Beer MatYep, they’ve done it again. For five consecutive years Ventnor’s very own Brewery based on the High Street and run by the lovely Baker family has won Beer of the Year for the deliciously moreish Golden Bitter (or Admirals if you buy it in a bottle).

Head brewer, Xavier Baker was presented with the award at a shindig at the Yarbridge Inn by The Island division of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

But, the prestige of award winning local brewers doesn’t stop there. Just up the road in St Lawrence, is of course, Yates Brewery who walked away with the Wightwash Editor’s Special Award for Pun of the Year for their Heckled Sven.

I haven’t had the pleasure of tasting it yet, but open to persuasion as always.
