VentBag are continuing the process of pursuing the non-plastic bags for use in and around Ventnor.
They started pursuing this idea well before the rest of the Island, and latterly, the rest of the UK woke up to the idea.
They understood how important not using plastics bags is - not just in stopping the further production of even more plastic bags, but in us all starting to shift our thinking in how we live our lives in the future.
Back when the very successful sew-a-thon took place in the window of the RNLI, we chatted to James Bradley about how his research had gone into the possible bags under consideration.
Once you start digging in to the source, material, process of creation of them, this stuff can become like an onion, where each level peeled away can reveal a ton more issues that you hadn’t thought about originally.

I think organic cotton is the way to go.
Cotton is less bulky than jute, and therefore easier to keep in your pocket etc, and more likely to be used.
I’m sure they could be bought at the right price with a bit more research and negotiation, especially if we got together with other places to produce a bigger order. Could this be organised through the IOW council?

how is the shower curtain one going mine got so wet the other day my letters to post got soggy to the point i had to rewrit them might try to make one myself is shower curtain bio degradable?

Hi lin
I have only made 2 bags so far out of the shower curtain fabric, they are excellent. They are a bit slow to make, as the fabric frays so much I have to make them one at a time, rather than the production line way that I usually use and it does slip in the machine a bit. I am sure they will be come easier the more I make. I will get one of them to you as soon as I can but I am having problems with my electric sewing machine, it was a few years old and it has not taken kindly to making hundreds of bags since January.

hi angie, please dont worry about me , sorry to hear about the machine too , i expect pvc is expensive , i have just bought an old trolly made out of canves i think , at the car boot for a £1 , past thinking high fashion these days!think it will be good .

In lots of the local shops now there are do-it yourself kits for morsbags.com
They are a complete package ,cut out material, label , and instructions on how to make them.
Hunt them out and Make a bag Make a change. Save the wildlife and oceans of the world with one small gesture.
All the material has been donated by local residents.
