Tree Climbers Go To Great Heights …

Following my post last week about International Tree Climbing Day, our friends at GoodLeaf have kindly sent us some pics and a brief report of the climb they organised on Sunday. Shame we couldn’t make it along … hopefully next time.

We all had a great day at Osborne House climbing a wonderful Cedar about 22 metres tall. Many thanks to Deb Goodenough at Osborne House for providing such a great setting at late notice.
We were a group of people with different climbing backgrounds; from those that haven’t climbed for a while, through to working tree surgeons and first time climbers. The climbers were Mick Jones and Chris and Sharon from Tree Care Isle of Wight, Jerry Willis and Catherine Chalkley from the Tree Team in the Countryside section of Isle of Wight Council and myself.
With the sun making an unusual appearance all day, the climb lasted into late afternoon with most of us reclining on top of the canopy and soaking up the rays (and the great view) at some stage during the day. A bit of exploring out to the tips of branches and climbing method experimentation saw the day out nicely.
Everyone had a great day and were keen to repeat the exercise this summer - keep watching the blog for details.
