Brighstone Primary Pupils Quiz Council Leader

Who said that the youth of today aren’t interested in politics?
Following on from our posting about the record number of votes and candidates for the Youth Member of Parliament position, we hear that primary school pupils have been giving the leader of the council and one of his colleagues a pretty good grilling.
During a tour of County Hall, members of Brighstone Primary School Eco-Schools Council (along with their Headteacher, Amanda Johnston) took the opportunity to fire questions to the leader of the council, David Pugh and Cllr Peter Bingham.
Brighstone Conservation Area Decision Made

The decision on the proposal to expand the Brighstone conservation area to include parts of Brook, Freshwater Bay, Hulverstone and Mottistone has been made.
Brighstone Conservation Area May Expand

There’s a proposal to expand the Brighstone conservation area – originally designated in December 1969 – to include parts of Brook, Freshwater Bay, Hulverstone and Mottistone.
The decision will be made by Cllr George Brown under a deligated decision following a public consultation was held by IW council between 31 July – 25 September.
The new areas each have their own designated zones, which are detailed below …
Brighstone School Bonfire Party Postponed

Brighstone Primary School’s bonfire party has been postponed for 24 hours until Saturday evening at 6pm, due to bad weather on Friday.
Please join us on Saturday on the school field adjacent to Warnes Lane car park for BBQ, soup, cakes, mulled cider and more.
Free entry, all welcome.
Brighstone Bonfire Night

Brighstone School Association has organised a bonfire night to be held in the school field (Warnes Lane).
From 6pm there will be a BBQ, hot soup, cakes and live music.
The bonfire is being built on Thursday so if you have any wood you can donate to would like to help built the bonfire get in touch with Suzanne Norman on 740285.

Big Wight Matter Starts Today

Don’t forget that the Big Wight Matter events starts today.
The weekend jamboree will be taking place at Brighstone Holiday Centre and features some great activities for all the family including live music, guided walks and a treasure hunt.
The aim of the weekend is to raise cash and awareness for Brainstrust, the Island’s Brain Cancer Charity.

Whilst we’re on the subject of worthy causes please put this one in your diaries and consider supporting the charity, Brainstrust.
At the end of the month a weekend jamboree is planned to take place at Brighstone Holiday Centre.
The weekend is intended to raise funds and awareness for Brainstrust, the brain cancer charity affiliated to Brain Tumour Research.
Many people will be travelling from across the country to join in the fun but Islanders are also welcome.
Appeal For Vulnerable Missing Man: Raymond Kitson

Press release from the Hampshire Police.
Police are appealing for information to find a vulnerable missing man from the Isle of Wight.
Raymond Norman Kitson, aged 60, was reported missing yesterday (Thursday, August 20).
He was last seen leaving a bed and breakfast address in Brighstone at approximately 11.00am on Wednesday, August 19.
Mr Kitson was expected to return to the property on Wednesday evening.
Police are concerned for his welfare because he is reported to have ill health with some mobility problems.

Brighstone Primary School’s summer party is open to all, and this year it features live music from up-and-coming island indie band Sundown City (who played the Isle of Wight Festival, and will also be at Bestival), as well as a guest DJ.
Bring a blanket or picnic chairs and join us on the school field for an evening of fun, food, drink and music. All ages welcome.
Adults £3, Children £2, under 5s free.

Don’t Forget The Brighstone Beach Clean

Don’t forget the Brighstone Beach Clean takes place tomorrow.
Mart and Rob from Rapanui have organised the beach clean in association with the marine Conservation Society and hope to clear the beach of debris that pollutes the beach and waters in that area.

This coming Saturday sees the return of the Beach Clean with the green-minded lads from Rapanui.
It’s not just about picking up rubbish either, as the Marine Conservation Society will record the data of what and how much is removed from the beach.
If you want to take part in the beach clean, bring some gloves and meet in the reception area of Grange Farm at 10am.
