Those of a certain age might remember seeing Jimi Hendrix perform live on the Wight back in 1970, but for those of us a little younger, the closest we can get is by either watching videos or playing albums.
The Gypsy Ladyland Experience, made up of three Island Musicians are not a tribute band as such, but three musicians with a love of Hendrix’s music.
They’ve been performing together for several years (on and off) and Darren Cochrane, Al Gubbins and Rick Stanbridge explore the three stages of Hendrix’s career. They take their hybrid name from ‘The Electric Ladyland Studios’, ‘The Band of Gypsys’ and of course The Jimi Hendrix Experience’.
Derived from a love rather than corporate goals, The Gypsy Ladyland Experience aim to let you re-live the kind of playing and feel reminiscent of the live venue sound of the late 60’s 70’s.
Expect to such classics as Crosstown Traffic, Spanish Castle Magic, Who Knows, If 6 Were 9, Power To Soul, Foxy, Freedom, Wind Cries Mary, Hey Joe, Angel, Up From the Skies, Little Wing, Voodoo Chile, Highway Chile, Red House and more.
Offering support for the night will be equally excellent, Zombie Groove Machine.
Tickets are a mere £6 in advance or £8 on the door

As I’m of a certain age (grunt, grunt) I hope to go along to see Rick and his band-of-gypsy mates.
I have seen them before and they are worth a visit. Zombie Groove Machine are worth seeing as well.
Is their no end to Rick’s talent? What with Gypsy Ladyland and the Apple Beatles and the live local bands (is he a chancer)? (Could be a pun in there).
