The Bees & Motion Pictures Join Bestival Line-Up

Thursday, 22nd June, 2006 at 11:15 am, Isle of Wight

“The Isle of Wight’s most celebrated musical sons” and Ventnor’s own, The Bees have joined the superb lineup at this year’s Bestival. Fresh back from their Highlands and Islands tour, the boys will be showcasing material from the much awaited third album, Octopus (some of which can be found at their MySpace).

the beesBut inclusion of the local talent doesn’t stop there. Niton lads and VentnorBlog favourites, The Motion Pictures, will be bringing their dreamy music to the stage. Word has it that Rupert’s passion for unearthing old and exotic musical instruments, means we’ll be treated to something from his 32-string Indian sarod and acoustic autoharp.

In total constrast to the Motions, Cowes based Finger Monster (who were mentioned on the forum a couple of days ago) have had the mighty festival gods smile down on them. Not only are they being played on IW Radio, but Bestival head-honcho Rob da Bank has given them loads of airplay on his Radio 1 show, calling them “great indie stormers”. You can catch them this year at the Bestival.

If all the rocking is starting to tire you out, head for the Bestival Village Bandstand where the wonderful voice of Heather and accompanying acoustics of Johnson will calm your nerves after a night of raving.

Feeling a bit sad we’re not going this year. We’ll come back once the kids can carry their own luggage! Tip for anyone going with kids this year: do take one of those luggage trolley thingies and, if the kids are under 4ish, a buggy. You have to walk a fair bit once you come off the bus and the quiet camping is further still. We’re doing Summer Sundae again this year - the easy parent-friendly option!

[...] As we reported last month, Ventnor’s own, The Bees will be returning for their third year. Playing live in the Rock N Roll tent and DJing in the Fat Tuesday tent as The Bees Sound System. [...]
