The Bees In The Nuts TV National Tour Super League
Monday, 14th July, 2008 at 12:50 pm, Isle of Wight
Many thanks to Gianpaolo, Manager of Beach Soccer Team, The Bees for sending through this report. He’ll be keeping us all updated on the progress of the team throughout the tournament. Ed
The Bees are one of the five teams on the National Tour Super League this summer and will go to four of five tournaments on the South coast showcasing the best players in the country fighting for a place in the Superfinal Cup at the end of August in Jersey, where the winners will be crowned ‘UK Champions’ and get a chance to play against the England team.
The first tournament should have been on Island 5-6th July but this was postponed due to bad weather.
The Bees have just returned victorious from the first National Super League event in Weymouth, smashing Santos 8-4 and then after a tight game against the Knights, destroyed them in the final period to win 7-4.
The whole team worked hard and we played the most exciting beach soccer of the weekend. It was important to get maximum points this weekend and we couldn’t have got off to a better start, scoring four early goals against Santos and getting lot of praise from the spectators.’
Gianpaolo - Bees Manager
Boyde Jardine was outstanding in goal playing his first game of the season and GC was our top goal scorer, hitting a trick in both games.
Steve ‘Heart Beat’ Porter was back to form scoring a superb goal to make it 5-3 against the Knights and was faultless at the back.
Following two seperate ligament injuries to his thumb and ankle, Goal keeper and Manager, Gianpaolo Giancovich watched the game from the sidelines.
‘My thumb injury has affected my game for the past month and I have just picked up a new injury to my ankle so I am gutted. I hope to be fit for the 2nd weekend in Weymouth but I’ll have to wait and see. Now I must to look after my ankle and hope it isn’t too serious. I’ll be running things from the sideline and making sure the team perform at their best. Even with key players out we will be a very hard team to beat.’
We will have a new yellow and green kit, and will be proudly displaying our new main sponsor ‘Dubai Profiles’. Giancarlo’s new signature ball will be the official beach soccer ball.
We’re back in Weymouth next weekend and highlights of the National Tour will be on Nuts TV.
