You’ll recognise a common theme with most of Tania Dixcey’s paintings and that is … children.
Why? Because, she tells us, through the characterisation of children in her work, she’s able to convey almost any emotion that she wishes to express.
Mostly however, she paints them because she likes them.
Like many things in life, some of her best inspiration comes when she’s not trying - either doodling whilst on the phone or mid way though writing a shopping list. Many of these doodles are sparks of ideas that end up in her paintings, or become characters for her future projects.
As common with many artists, Tania can become quite sentimental towards her pictures. To her, each has a unique personality, captured within a moment.
At the time of creating them, she’s never aware of who they are or who they will become, or even if she is projecting her own feelings at that time into them. One thing is certain though, if to the artist, they don’t seem alive - they’ll never see the light of day.
Those who are familiar with Tania’s work will be well aware of her acrylics. She likes to keep the idea simple, preferring it that way. Despite her years behind the easel, she work in many mediums that others would find unusual - Tipex, felt tip pens - using them to supplement her brushwork and pastels, executing them all with skill and finesse. A surprise to many would be that Tania’s favourite medium so far, is her trusted Biro.
What is clear, is that Tania has varied styles, and is certainly not happy to be limited by any one in particular.
