Streetstyle Festival: Don’t Forget Your Skateboard

Tuesday, 7th August, 2007 at 3:31 pm, Isle of Wight

Only a few days to go until the first Ventnor StreetStyle Festival kicks off at the skate park on the eastern esplanade.

Streetstyle Festival: Don't Forget Your SkateboardOrganisers will be busying themselves on Saturday morning getting the site prepared with marquees etc, and the action kicks off from about midday.

A great day of activities are lined up and it’s free to get in. If you’re a budding young band or musician, maybe you can try your luck in Ventnor’s very own “Battle of the Bands”.

All bands or solo artists will be judged on their musical ability, stage presence and general “X” factor. You will need to pre-book to take part, so give Graeme a buzz on 078417 13404 if you’re ready to take the stage. If you’re lucky, you might walk away with a trophy!

In the skate park, the battle moves from music to skating. Trophies will be awarded to the best of three age categories. As Simon reported earlier, work is going well on getting the ramps ready in time, but extra help will be needed to secure everything by Saturday.

John Cattle will be on hand all day and you don’t have to pre-book to take part – just turn up on the day - but don’t forget your skateboard.

After the Battle of the Bands, at about 5pm, Wight Style will perform their unique blend of rapping, hip-hop, MC-ing and DJ-ing followed by more local DJ’s until about 8pm.

Nathan Holt (artwork pictured above) and Hannah Ray will be doing graffiti art during the afternoon and everyone is welcome to have a try. The finished panels will go decorate the outside of the sports hall at Ventnor Middle School.

There’ll also be a street dance workshop taking place during the afternoon which everyone, young and old are invited to take part in.

As well as all this, there will be face painting, a bbq and soft drinks and snacks will be on sale.

So tell all your mates about it, spread the word on Bebo/MySpace etc and show your support for the renovation of the Ventnor Skate park.

All money raised on the day, by sales or donations, will go towards the insurance of the skate park.
