St Joseph’s Application Pulled From Planning Committee
Tuesday, 23rd September, 2008 at 9:59 am, Isle of Wight
In another twist to the long running saga, St Joseph’s development in Madeira Road, Ventnor, the retrospective application for amendments that we reported on last week has now been pulled from today’s Planning Committee!
Go to the story to refresh yourself as to the weirdness of the current application.
We hear from Planning Services that the application will now be bundled with the other retrospective application (to retain the unauthorised height increases to rear buildings and build up parapet roof) and we’re told will be heard at the October Planning Committee.
Mind you, it hasn’t been removed from the agenda on the Council Web site, so we hope that we’re not being fed a duff line here.

“Fed a duff line?” “Fed a duff line?”
Surely you are not suggesting that the IOW Planning Authority would LIE to you?
I’ll have you know that the Head of Planning has an “Improvement Plan”, upon which he has been working since January 2007 and which he intends to put before the Audit Commission and, if they accept it, he will then put it before the Scrutiny Committee and, if they accept it, he will then put it before Bill Brewer, Jan Stewer, Peter Gurney, Peter Davey, Daniel Whidoon, Harry Hawk, Tom Cobley and anyone else who is interested and we will all see an improvement in the Planning Process by 2053!

I have just seen Sals comment on the forum regarding how this “application” was due to be heard in July. That got pulled because the plans were wrong, then it was due to be heard in September, then THAT got pulled because Mr. Murphy referred to the plan for Couthy Butts being the plan for St Josephs.
Now it would appear that the October DCC hearing into this latest fiasco has been pulled due to the incorrect plans being submitted yet again.
Is there anybody with some integrity, possibly working for one of the LPAs featured on BBCs The Planners Are Coming, who will take charge of this bunch of morons?

Have a look at the Keith Newbery article on planning on page 2 of the CP Weekender.
He calls it “a shambles” and states that the Deputy Chair was “so out of her depth” that the votes were taken in the wrong order and had to be taken again.
The Gurnard residents who showed up were incensed that there was not even a quorum to make a decision on their future.

La plus ca change….
On P.25 of the CP Geoff Lumley is quoted as saying that this LPA, despite the slump in new applications is only achieving 25% of major and 55% of “minor” applications being dealt with in the 8 week time frame as opposed to the targets of 60 and 65% respectively.
George Brown said that they should get “a right kicking”.
Well they have and continue to get “a right kicking”, but the penny never drops and nothing ever changes…yet.
In contrast, a waste management operative at East Cowes was sacked for taking a few lunch break “extensions” of around 40 minutes.
But of course, that is in the private sector, so different criteria apply
I presume he knows nothing about planning, so maybe there is an opportunity for a change of career direction.
