Wednesday, 2nd April, 2008 at 9:57 am, Isle of Wight
This has got to be a seminal moment in history - the council press office publicising a gig at Ryde Theatre. We’re not sure whether they have ever done this before (certainly not since we’ve been publishing their press releases). Now they Council have discovered they can support the theatre by publicising the bands, let’s hope they put the same effort into the long overdue repairs needed to the building. Don’t forget that VentnorBlog are running a competition today to win two tickets for the gig on Friday (worth £28-34) Ed
Soul II Soul Soundsystem, one of the most influential movers of the British dance scene, take the stage at Ryde Theatre on Friday.
There are still tickets available for the performance hailed as one of the biggest coups ever for the theatre.
Soul II Soul can boast 6.5 million album sales in 35 territories around the world.

It’s a shame they did not publish the real press statement and they changed who actually spoke about tourism.

ORIGINAL - SOUL II SOUL Press release
The Soul II Soul soundsystem is a massive coup by The Development Suite who have tirelessly been saving the theatre from possible closure and council cost cutting, by creating an unprecedented level of gigs. SOUL II SOUL represent the most successful dance act ever to play Ryde Theatre, so organisers hope this inspires people to support what could potentially be the standard of entertainment that the whole county and tourists/day-trippers can enjoy on a regular basis. With 6.5 million album sales in 35 territories around the world, Soul II Soul are widely regarded as the most influential movers on the British Dance Scene.
Jazzie B, THE Funky Dred, (now made O.B.E. by the Queen recently for outstanding contribution to British Pop Industry) and his Soul II Soul soundsystem performed an outstanding set at last years Bestival. This time round he’ll be spinning the decks accompanied by blind singing sensation MICHELLE KELLY & female rapper MC SKIBADEE, promising some classy vocals and punchy rapping on classics cuts such as KEEP ON MOVIN & BACK II LIFE.
Live and local on the Isle of Wight @ Ryde Theatre in Lind Street, tickets are still available. Telephone the hotline on
01983 568099 or book through http://www.rydetheatre.co.uk. Doors on the night
will be open at 7.30PM.
Organiser & local musician/activist Rick Stanbridge said “This is the highlight of a long campaign to raise the standard locally and keep Ryde Theatre alive. I hope to work with the Theatre & the Council on more positive initiatives which will see The Venue retained as a proud PUBLIC asset, moving forward and being a valuable commodity to the creative, artistic environment we are increasingly enjoying.”
He went on, “It’s been a hard time to get attitudes towards the Theatre to change on many levels but with a new financial year dawning, new management, and a great last year to reflect upon, there is a massive opportunity to take that in a more SYNERGISED direction, taking on board the many recommendations we have offered without expensive consultancy fees. Through the Development Suite and the assistance of Happy Feet productions, we have had top Hip-Hop, Tribute, Local, Soul, Funk, Folk, Blues and can boast names such as Roy Ayers the jazz virtuoso singer & vibraphonist - Andy McKee, guitar fingerpicking legend - Marva Whitney, James Brown’s Soul Sister No. 1 - and top rappers like Percee P, Cold Crush Brother, Ugly Duckling, Stig & Syntax, and People Under The Stairs. This shows a marked improvement on very limited budgets and little resource support, and we can only hope David Pugh commits to saving Ryde’s Theatre in the same way he has committed to keeping open a more expensive establishment in his own council ward.”
Complications meant little time has been left to publicise this event, so please phone up now if you want a ticket and ensure a great band receives a great audience.
A happy face, A thumpin bass, for a lovin race.

We knew it would get censored but to be actually plagiarised on a quote!
Did they not have enough care or passion to come up with their own?
No!

Blimey! The original press statement is well worth a read! Thank you for publishing it Musoactivator! It’s a shame the County Press never seem to take the council to task nearly enough, but that’s why so many of us use an alternative source to keep track of what’s really going on.
