Sandown Skate Park Opening: Val Taylor (podcast)
Wednesday, 8th October, 2008 at 11:23 am, Isle of Wight
A couple of weekends ago, whilst White Air was taking place, we popped over toe the official opening of The Fort, the name for the new Sandown skate park.
As well as chatting to Sandown Mayor, Ian Ward, and Cllr Val Stephenson who spearheaded the project, we caught up with Sandown Town Clerk, Val Taylor.
From the recording you’ll hear the sounds of the Samba Band in the background which added to the great carnival atmosphere of the event.
Val agreed that the kids were having a fantastic time, telling us that they were itching to get into the park, during the hour of so that it was closed so that organisers could put up the flags, tie the ribbon across the ramps and set up for refreshments.
Their enthusiasm to get onto the ramps shone through. Once the ribbon had been cut by Val and Ian, there were lots of happy faces, performing tricks and developing bonds with other users of all ages.
