Ryde Library Modern Apprentice Unique In Country

AN ISLE of Wight woman passionate about books has become the only person in the country to complete a modern apprenticeship in library work.
Selina Smith, 25, completed her apprenticeship between 2003 and 2006 - and was then taken on by Isle of Wight Council’s library service as a full time Library and Information Assistant.
On Thursday (Feb 28) Gina Lane, the Director of Lifelong Learning UK will be visiting Ryde Library where she will officially present the Modern Apprenticeship certificate to Selina.
Isle of Wight Council leader and cabinet member for libraries Councillor David Pugh said: “People like Selina are a real asset to Isle of Wight Council.
“It is to her immense credit that she has worked to hard to achieve this unique qualification.
“Selina has worked extremely hard to achieve her Modern Apprenticeship and has since proved herself as a competent, thoughtful library assistant at Ryde Library with a commitment to customer care and a flair for display work.
“Selina joined the Library Service as a Saturday assistant at Sandown Library in 2001 while still at school, and her successful appointment now as a full time library assistant is testimony to the success of the modern apprentice scheme.”
