Next Wednesday sees the last jazz night at the Midnight Bar in Rookley until October and a great last gig has been lined up.

Paul Booth Quintet: Rookley Jazz ClubPaul Booth is one of the most exciting and in demand musicians on the scene today.

Although a prominent figure in British jazz his powerful fluent tenor sax is much sought after across the genres.

He is currently fronting the Steve Winwood Band and will be playing with Tom Petty on his 2008 US tour.

His appearance at the increasingly popular Rookley Jazz Club will be his third visit in 12 months having performed there recently with Sax Appeal and at the Jazz Café, Quay Arts with his Quintet in 2007.

He is a regular at Ronnie Scotts with both his Quintet and guesting for others.

The Quintet are regarded as a talented and exciting line-up in their own right and includes versatile pianist Mike Gorman, Phil Donkin (bass) and Dave Smith (drums). Mancunian Start McCallum, himself something of a rising star, adds his distinctive guitar style to the Quintet.

Last years CD release “No Looking Back” was a remarkably mature statement from this highly talented saxophonist and composer, the Daily Telegraph review saying “the result is a delight”.

“blistering young saxist Paul Booth is a genuine prodigy” The Independent

Paul Booth is a multi-talented musician. I’ve seen him four times with Steve Winwood and Tom Petty on the 2008 tour and look forward to my front seats in the July and August events. I look forward to acquiring his CD “No Looking Back” and highly recommend hearing him on the “Nine Lives” CD with Steve Winwood.
