Niton Skate Ramp: Future To Be Decided Next Tuesday

Thursday, 19th July, 2007 at 5:16 pm, Isle of Wight

Niton Skate Ramp: Future To Be Decided Next TuesdayI see in the agenda notes for the next Planning Committee (Tuesday 24th) that the future of Niton Skate Ramp will be discussed.

Following the public consultation and the planning officers evaluation of the situation, conditional permission is being suggested.

If this is granted by the Planning Committee, permission will be given for the skate ramp will remain open until 30 September 2010 on or before which date the skateboard ramps shall be dismantled and removed from the site.

I am not sure why they would suggest that it only remain open for another three years.

The other conditions of permission being granted are that within two months, a 0.5m screen must be erected on the northern end of the half pipe. This they say, is in the interests of the privacy and amenities of the occupiers of the neighbouring properties.

The last condition is that details of a planting scheme for the northern boundary of the site should be submitted to and agreed in writing by the Local Planning Authority.

We’ll just have to see what the Planning Committee make of it. I do hope for the sake of the kids in Niton and surrounding villages, that they ensure it stays open and make that indefinitely.
