New Ventnor Mayor Named

Saturday, 26th May, 2007 at 6:37 am, Isle of Wight

The New Major Is NamedSusan Scoccia is the new mayor of Ventnor.

She was sworn in last night in a glorious ceremony on the upper floors of Winter Gardens, while the assembled Ventnorians gather below on the terrace, honouring it in the way they know best, having a drink while worshipping to the ancient sun god.

Proposed by Robbie Mew, saying Susan was “an excellent choice,” and seconded by Brenda Lawson, Susan said she would use her “best judgement and capabilities to serve the town.” Thanking the town council for the confidence it had shown in her, she complemented the retiring mayor, Brian Lucas, for acting in such a “cool, calm and relaxed way” in the last year, hoping that she could emulate those skills.

In her acceptance speech, she said she “loved the hard work and serving the community,” which she found very rewarding. There were two specific things she wanted to achieve this year 1) getting Ventnor, Quality Council Status and 2) to see the Blue flag return to Ventnor.

She was pleased to see Ventnor taking good steps forward and felt a confidence in the town.

Maureen Cawley was selected again as deputy mayor.

Stepping down as the previous Mayor, Brian Lucas said it had been an honour and a privilege to have served the town.

Politics, Ventnor

Mark must be thrilled that his heroine has achieved recognition for all her selflessness, as we all are.
It is to be hoped that she will do all within her power to stop the unchecked developments by both greedy property developers and housing associations, building flats which nobody wants.
Serving the community can be very rewarding, very rewarding indeed.

Are you saying, Simon, that the assembled Ventnorians could not give ” a good cahhot”?
A trifle irreverent toward someone who has already given us more than we could have expected.

Hmmn! No mention of 20MPH or one way system on the Esplanade then? Would have thought more important than a blue flag!
And what happened to the “feasibility study”?
