Mill Bay: The Voice of Ventnor #3: Podcast
Friday, 21st September, 2007 at 1:39 pm, Isle of Wight
We’ve edited out question asking from the last two, as you’ve heard them all before. Below are more of the Vox Pops from our stint outside Sommerfields on Tuesday afternoon.
The aim was to get a feel for how people of Ventnor viewed the news that the case officer for the Mill Bay Development application is recommending approval of the scheme.
There were 168 letters of objection from members of the public, English Heritage have objected to the plans in their current state and the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England believe the plans constitute over-development of the site. Hear what the next three members of the public have to say after the click.
Bod #1: “Don’t want it to spoil the view”
Bod #2: “We’re bordering on a complete change of the seafront - no, I wouldn’t go for that”
Bod: #3: “It’s a poor state of affairs”

I have no objection to building flats and shops on this site, but feel that the plans to build to the height of five floors is too high, if you look at old photographs, the building that was there before was only three, this would not be too high, and the surrounding properties would still have a resonable view.

The planning application IS for five floors, barbara, that’s why there are so many objections. You say “five floors is too high” so you too are actually are objecting to the application.

Yes, I am objecting to the height, not to building flats and shops, it would be an improvement to what is there now. I love Ventnor, have been going to the beach there for over fifty years, as I lived in Wroxall and now live in the very unattractive town of Newport, look what this council have down to our old market town, don’t let this happen to beautiful Ventnor.
