Midge Ure Plays Ventnor Winter Gardens

When we heard that Midge Ure was going to be playing the Ventnor Winter Gardens next month, something went a flutter in my stomach.

Midge UreMemories of teenage crushes, far too much makeup, rebelling against my parents and the reshaping of my toes, in order to fit into winkle-pickers came flooding back.

For those of you who are going “Midge who?” (saddos) he was lead singer with Ultravox, one of the greatest and most popular bands in the 1980s.

We read today that apparently, Midge turned down an offer to be the lead singer of the Sex Pistols and prior to joining Ultravox, was in a band with Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols) and also played guitar with Thin Lizzy.

Although he doesn’t get much top ten action these days - Midge is still recording and released his last album in 2006.

Looking through Midge’s website, we were quick to realise that he is obviously a keen photographer - with some amazing shots in the ‘lounge’ area. Hopefully, he’ll bring his camera with him when he comes to Ventnor and take advantage of our beautiful landscape and coastline. You never know, we might just see some shots of Ventnor up on his site in the future.

Tickets for the gig are £16 or £14 for concessions and available from the Winter Gardens box office on (01983) 857581
