Michael Jennings At It Again: New St Josephs Plans Thrown Out
Friday, 1st February, 2008 at 10:00 pm, Isle of Wight
You would’ve thought that after having a stop notice slapped on his St Joseph’s development and raising the ire of a large group of people living around his own house, Michael Jennings wouldn’t be wanting to waste any more of the planning and enforcement officers time, wouldn’t you.
It doesn’t appear so.
The planning officer did a site at St Josephs visit this week and guess what he reported back?
Whilst at the site I noted that there were still discrepancies between the plans and what has been built. As a result, I do not feel that it would be appropriate to have the plans considered at the next Planning Committee and have requested that new amended plans are sent to the Planning Authority that reflect what has been built within the next 21 days. Once the plans have been submitted a new consultation exercise should be carried out and you will be notified of this.
So, once again Mr Jennings is responsible for wasting the time of the general public and planning officers - sadly equating to our tax pounds. Will he ever learn?
Oooo, he’s a very naughty boy
The VentnorBlog file on Michael Jennings is extensive, but you might remember that most recently, we reported earlier this month that after a Joseph’s site visit in August by the planning officer and enforcement officer, Michael Jennings was requested to submit new plans to accurately reflect how he had built beyond the approved permission.
It took his architect, Duncan Gayler nearly three months to get these amended plans to the planners to be followed by the normal public consultation - holiday hijack-style natch. This time these jolly fellows have been given a further 21 days to produce the necessary - leaving VB to wonder how slow you have to draw to take that long to complete some drawings?
Let’s hope they manage to get the correct plans together in time. We do wonder, however, what will happen to them if they don’t?
Ventnor Enhancement Fund
Oh cruel irony, this is the same Michael Jennings that is currently the Project & Funding officer for the Ventnor Enhancement Fund.
Jennings and Enhancement in the same sentence.
Beyond how laughable that is, some have wondered if it’s right that such a person should be representing Ventnor and having a say in how it transforms itself.

“So, once again Mr Jennings is responsible for wasting the time of the general public”
That is certainly true and more importantly overstretched resources, but;
“and planning officers”
I think not!
At the DCC hearing into “The Stage”, the Area Team Leader said that he believed the application had “merit”.
The assembled Councillors, objectors and members of the public literally fell about laughing.
One member saying that it looked like a Blue Peter project that had gone wrong.
This is the SAME officer who was seen by everyone in the Chamber in deep conversation with the applicant minutes before the hearing.
This is the SAME officer who, in response to Councillor Scoccia asking on 9 October, why the application had not been heard in July, August or September, gave her an assurance that it WOULD be heard before the end of 2007 and then encouraged yet ANOTHER retrospective application on 14 November.
This is the SAME officer who wanted to take some photos from the Domoneys property to show how the nice bamboo shoots addressed the overlooking aspect and then emailed them to tell them that as they were not at home when he called on Monday 21 January, he took them ANYWAY!
It later transpired that he spoke with two other neighbours that day, who confirmed that it was NOT Monday, but Tuesday 22 when he called!
As has long been suspected, he does not seem to know which day of the week it is.
One of the neighbours offered him the telephone number to contact the Domoneys which he refused!
So you see that I do not completely hold Mr. Jennings solely responsible for these “tactics” as I do not believe that he is that bright.
When you then see comments like:
“Whilst at the site I noted that there were still discrepancies between the plans and what has been built. As a result, I do not feel that it would be appropriate to have the plans considered at the next Planning Committee and have requested that new amended plans are sent to the Planning Authority that reflect what has been built within the next 21 days. Once the plans have been submitted a new consultation exercise should be carried out and you will be notified of this.”
in relation to St. Josephs, which WAS due to be heard in February and will now be heard when all the “revised plans”, “revised application” are in order, you will understand the determination of the other residents to have the “Stage” eventually heard in the Courts.
There is some comfort to be drawn from the letter which says that “we can get away from Ventnor”.
How many of you reading this have had “words” with your neighbours?
Then how many of you do not have one neighbour in the whole of the surrounding area who will speak to you?
As one poster put it on another part of the Blog, they are in love with Cornwall. Good. Go. The sooner the better.
