Meet The Musician's UnionCalling all MU members on the Isle of Wight
The East & South East region would like to invite all MU members living and working on the Isle of Wight to an open meeting, due to take place on Thursday 4th September at Ryde Theatre.

The meeting will feature a presentation and Q&A session hosted by Paul Burrows and Alex Mann of the East & South East region of the MU, and will also give members on the island a chance meet MU officials face to face and discuss issues relating to any aspect of their working lives as musicians.

As a bonus, members attending the meeting will be given priority access to ‘Making Waves’ a live music event at Ryde Theatre which takes place after the meeting. Members will be welcome to stick around and enjoy performances from Hugo Frusslinky, Fatal, The Chancers and more.

We’d like to offer our thanks to MU member Rick Stanbridge, who has been instrumental in helping us to put this event together.

The meeting will start at 5pm, finishing around 7.30. Non MU members are also welcome, so do spread the word. More details below:

To reserve your place at this event, please contact Maureen O’Grady on eastsoutheast(at)musiciansunion.org.uk or call 020 7840 5537

This is a great chance for bands to get self empowered and a last gift from the making waves team who have got many, many Island bands playing orignal music at a great venue which was in dire need of saving, aswell as getting bands recorded and interviewed for Isle of Wight radio every week. The show afterwards should be hot too with 2 of the Islands best unsigned bands!

Latest rumour thread…Fatal will not be able to make the gig.

Hopefully the musicians union can now keep a watchful eye on the place…

    Next rumour thread…

Big possibility of retail chains underneath the theatre limiting the musical scope further though sold as a “fundraiser for venue improvements”..cough, cough…alterations…SOunds fishy to me.

Hi Musoactivator, good work! I have printed the article out and given it to some musicians. Has platform one got this?
Shops under the Venue? It strikes me they may as well put them in it, on it and over it. That way they win the war early.
What they could do is look at putting some thing like the Wight-rock bar under it; at least it will compliment the music above.
Keep up the good work Muso and see you on the 4th if not before.

  3. musoactivator Says:

Thanks Roger. I agree about underneath….. Ryde is full with retail & eating establishments that already suffer the squeeze from Tesco. Is there need for more of the same? It woud

I say put in some/all music services of the Island underneath…A cultural centre of excellence for the Island. Even the carnival, ryde artworks, Ryde Arts Festival, Music therapy, tuition, artist accomadation etc etc would be of more benefit and probably streamline a lot of separate costs amongst them.
