Medway Queen To Receive Heritage Lottery Funding
Thursday, 20th March, 2008 at 12:10 pm, Isle of Wight
It’s reported today in the publication, Kent Online, that the paddle steamer, The Medway Queen, a one time venue for a nightclub on the Isle of Wight, will receive £1.8m heritage lottery funding for rebuilding.
According to the article, Brian Goodhew from the Medway Queen Preservation Society, says that they’ll need more than twice that amount to do the full job on the paddle steamer.
“We are now free to approach shipyards to rebuild the hull to its traditional standard with rivets.
“The HLF said the Medway Queen is going to be exactly how we remember it. If it’s heritage, it’s going to be built to original plans and skills.
The Medway Queen’s life as a nightclub was discussed fairly recently on the VentnorBlog forum and we’re sure that this article may bring back a few memories for many of our readers.
