We’re massive fans of Matthew’s work, so really pleased to hear that he’ll be back at Quay Arts later in the year at the Rope Store Gallery. Ed
Isle of Wight artist Matthew Chambers works in ceramics and is based at Quay Arts Jubilee Stores studios.
Chambers makes wheel thrown and constructed vessels and sculpture built from layering circles into many different patterns.
He creates in abstract instead of producing functional or representational works, and a primary aim is to create a beauty and intrigue through the form of each piece.
Individually, the pieces convey unique properties of space, light, and colour, and will sustain an expression of abstract and rhythmical beauty from the pattern of the shapes within.
He has developed his own unique process of making and construction, and this is an essential factor in creating the required outcomes.
This exhibition will consist of a wide variety of work in Chambers current portfolio alongside a brand new wall work made up from a pattern of multiple pieces.
Chambers recently exhibited at Ceramic Art London 2008, held at the Royal College of Art.
Other recent shows in 2007 include the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, London and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
