Leeson Road Closed During Half Term

Thursday, 17th May, 2007 at 8:26 am, Isle of Wight

New hits us from the council that Leeson Road will be closed during half term for urgent repairs.

It is necessary to close A3055 Leeson Road, to traffic between 9am on Wednesday 30 May and approximately 5pm on Thursday 31 May from St Boniface Road to Bonchurch Shute for urgent carriageway repairs by contractor JA Dempsey for the Isle of Wight Council.

Leeson Road Closed During Half TerAccess to premises will be maintained as far as possible during the works.

DIVERSION ROUTE: B3327 St Boniface Road, Mitchell Avenue, Ocean View Road, Newport Road, Clarence Road, High Street (Wroxall), St Johns Road and Wroxall Road, A3020 Godshill Road, Cliff Bridge and Victoria Avenue, A3055 High Street (Shanklin), Church Road, Cowleeze Hill, Bonchurch Road and Leeson Road.

I am aware that the works will be undertaken during half term week which is a busy time. The works need to be carried out in the next few weeks and as Leeson Road is an important school bus route the works can really only be carried out during school holidays. It is considered that is preferable to undertake the works during half term week rather than the peak summer period.

Whilst it is understood that road works have to be done, what concerns me is the oft seen lack of activity on site for no apparent reason. A prime example of this was the works recently carried out at Whiteley Bank, where 4 sets of temporary lights were installed causing major hold ups, yet there were many times when nobody was actually working. One does not mind being slightly delayed for these works, but it becomes annoying then to see the site devoid of personnel.
