Kate Spicer: How She Swam To Bestival
Sunday, 14th October, 2007 at 11:00 am, Isle of Wight
We’ve nothing for respect for the 12 people who swam to Bestival this year, we found it hard enough to put up our tent!
One of the swimmers, Kate Spicer, has a piece in The Sunday Times today about her experiences.
Her driver? “the purest embodiment of [her] train/cane, spa/bar, healthy/hedonistic lifestyle,” illustrating the bi-polar existence of much of today’s 1960’s+ children of today. Clearly she’s a practised practitioner.
She covers the process of training, a little on the swim “The swim itself was a bit boring, and my shoulders ached, but it was not as hard as a marathon, or even a half-marathon,” but she’s very clear that the whole thing was very worthwhile, giving her all the more reason to mad at Bestival.
At what celebration it was too,
“introduced personally in front of thousands of people, and then we joined the rest [of the swimmers] as they danced on stage. For a second, I thought to myself: “Right, Kate, be cool, pull some steady moves.” But when the moment came, I just went mental, hurling myself around the stage with a massive grin on my face. It was the revenge of the swimmer nerds, our moment of glory.
Her ambition for next year? Biking, swimming and running to Bestival - Go Kate!
