Just Off Being A Mountain

Thursday, 13th October, 2005 at 9:01 am, Isle of Wight

Chatting to Mark Compton-Hall yesterday and he passed on a gem about St Boniface Downs.

It’s well known that the Downs which sit behind Ventnor are the highest point on the island (no wonder that’s where the radar station was located then), but interestingly, they’re only 200ft below qualifying as a mountain!

So after that long walk up the Downs on a Sunday afternoon, when you feel as though you’ve climbed a mountain … you nearly have!

Environment, Ventnor
