‘Eventually I went to live across the sea. My House was set up in Magic Places’ … ‘Monsoons’ by Pablo Neruda
Quay Arts is proud to present a selection of paintings, studies and a first solo exhibition by Judy Rodrigues. Judy is an artist whose childhood on the Isle of Wight has formed the basis of her love of the natural and elemental ‘landscape’ and in relation – the ‘poetics’ of environment.
There is a significant importance to geographical situations in Judy’s work. The coastal estuaries at Portishead and shorelines of Bristol, littered with man made and natural debris ‘panoramas’ offer a transitional post-industrial, developmental landscape, from which Judy draws her subject.
Judy Rodrigues works simultaneously between large and small scale paintings which hover between memory, observation and imagination to create metaphorical landscapes. Her ‘mark making’ process is a fusion of painted and pictorial conventions to translate a ‘calligraphy’ or ‘language’.
