Jazz Festival On You and Yours: UPDATE - Confirmed
Thursday, 8th May, 2008 at 6:18 pm, Isle of Wight
Today we got a phone call telling us that the Ventnor Jazz Festival and the Folk and Blues Festival will be the subject for discussion on BBC Radio 4’s You and Yours programme tomorrow at midday.
Given it’s the stations consumer affairs programme, it will be investigating the problems of the previous years, where some of those involved have spoken of non-payment, you know what we’re talking about.
Several of those who claim debts haven’t been paid have recorded interviews, and we’ve been told that Phil from the Jazz Office will be speaking live on the programme.
UPDATE: The You and Yours Web site has been updated, showing that it will be featured today

We just tried to call the Jazz office when we published this, to try to confirm this, but they were on voice mail.

I really cannot believe that this is still on the agenda.
Are there no Trading Standards on the Island?
Ventnor Town Council and the IOW Council should withdraw all and any support for this as Wightlink have.
Disgraceful.

Just finished listening to the Folk & Blues Festival package on You & Yours (if you missed it you’ll be able to their website for ‘listen again’ option). I was pretty relieved to begin with as presenters & interviewees chose not to mention Ventnor but just refered to the IOW. Then Geri from the festival office came on to justify their trading practices (although pushed and pushed she refused to say that debts would be paid)and made sure she got the name of Ventnor in, several times.
Another PR coup - not happy with having made the name of Ventnor mud throughout the music world, she had to make sure that a wider audience had a full appreciation of what type of business approach this town (and the majority of its’ council tolerates).
