IW Police Ladies Team Get Pretty In Pink

We hear from our friend at the nick that the lovely ladies of the force will be swapping their work clothes for pink this Sunday, as they take part in the Race for Life 2008.

RACE FOR LIFE14 ladies of the force will dress in pink as they join nearly 1,200 other women who are all raising money for Cancer Research.

Leading the team will be Newport Sergeant Penny Deacon. The cause is dear to her, as she is currently undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer.

She said:

“I am really looking forward to this Sunday’s event. I am not sure quite how I am going to run in a pink ballgown and wig, but I will give it a bash.

The Race for Life takes place on a five-kilometre course at Medina Playing Fields and Seaclose Park in Newport, and will start at 11.00am on Sunday.

Anyone who wishes to sponsor us can either drop a donation into Newport Police Station or visit the Web site.”

Last year they raised £1316.52 at Race for Life last year when all 18 members completed the five-kilometre course within 45 minutes.

So far this year, the team has collected nearly £800 in donations, and are aiming to raise more than £1,000 again.

Collection boxes for Cancer Research are being placed in the front office of the police station in Newport High Street.

The Isle of Wight Police Ladies Team would like to thank everyone for their kind support and donations so far.

Well done to Penny in her continued support of breast cancer charity. On a lighter note, and I am sure Penny will have a giggle at this, I have noticed that many of our lovely policewomen are stretching their new black lycra uniforms to the limit at present and whilst raising a few quid for charity, they will also be helping in getting their rather portly figures back into shape. Well done girls. Mike
