Island Schools Shake-up: Public Meeting
Thursday, 23rd August, 2007 at 7:38 pm, Isle of Wight
There has been much consternation about the proposed changes to the schools on the Island.
Proposals are in place to potentially close two Island High Schools and for year nine students to be kept on at middle school - losing the valuable settling in period they get at the first year of High School.
There were many public meetings held across the Island in the last year, arranged by the Council, but now those who oppose the scheme are doing the same and have organised a public meeting.
Although we don’t have a time yet, if you want to hear about the pros and cons of the schemes make sure that you put 12th September in your diary. We’ll give you more details nearer the time.
If you have kids of any age in education on the Island, these proposals will affect them at some point.
The meeting will be in the centre of the Island at St. George’s Park, Newport.
I suppose we should be grateful that if the two high schools do close, the schools who will have to accomodate the couple of THOUSAND extra students, might at least build porta-cabins to house the students rather than force them up a tree!
