Island Parking Attendants To The Rescue

QUICK-THINKING council staff helped to save the life of a man in Cowes who was suffering from the affects of hypothermia.
Parking attendants Shane Randall and Tom Dodd came across the man lying prostrate on the ground in a drive in Mill Hill Road, Cowes while they were on late shift.
The man, who was in his mid-thirties, was almost unconscious and his body temperature was very low.
Shane, who has a number of first aid qualifications, and Tom both removed their coats and wrapped them around the man to keep him warm.
Shane then called for an ambulance and the pair both kept talking to the man until help arrived.
When the ambulance got to the scene, paramedics confirmed that the man had a body temperature of 34.6 degrees which is dangerously hyperthermic.
He also had no radial pulse.
The man was taken to St Mary’s Hospital and the paramedic later confirmed that the actions of the parking attendants on December 27 almost certainly saved the man’s life.
Councillor Tim Hunter-Henderson Isle of Wight Council cabinet member for environment and transport said: “Both Shane and Tom’s actions undoubtedly helped to save the life of this man.
“We are very pleased at the council to have such dedicated staff and I commend them for their actions. Their quick thinking shows that there is more to the role of being a parking attendant that merely enforcing parking regulations”
