Island Line Timetable Shortens

Wednesday, 18th July, 2007 at 11:24 am, Isle of Wight

Island Line Timetable ShortensAnyone missing the Island Line timetable that used to go all of the way to Waterloo from Shanklin?

I went on there today and saw that it now stops at Portsmouth.

In the past I’ve found it really helpful, saving you from having to juggle two different Web sites when trying to plan a journey away from this paradise.

Another major benefit was it was printable (shock horror - using paper) and became a really handy reference.

I called Island Line today (01983 812591) and they confirmed that things had changed when the engineering works knackered the train service from Portsmouth onwards (can you believe it _still_ isn’t completed?!?!).

Asking if they’re going bring it back - I heard that they didn’t plan to, saying that SW Trains (who now own the Island Line) might be bringing out something similar - sometime.

Having been on the SW Trains site, I can confirm that you’re able to use their online journey planner on their Home page to plot your trip all of the way from Shanklin to Waterloo, which is helpful. The problem remains that when you’re hoping to take a train, you can’t always get access to the Internet - and that’s where the print out comes in handy.

I put a call in to ask for it to be brought back, for all of the reasons of handiness given at the start of this. Maybe if they had a few more calls, they might reconsider.
