IOW Ferries: Price Inquiry Petition

Wednesday, 28th February, 2007 at 8:00 am, Isle of Wight

Petitions seem to be the order of the day at the moment, and last week, forum member linlin alerted us all to the recent online petition requesting “an independent, government-sponsored investigation into the cost of travel and carriage to and from the Isle of Wight.”

It’s only been running a short amount of time but already has 375 signatures. Registering your signature is as simple as filling in your name, address and email details. Once you hit the submit button, you’ll see a screen confirming that your signature has been registered. You are also then asked to make a donation. This is not obligatory.

It appears that the petition has already been attacting the attention of press, with Portsmouth Today covering the story.

it is cheaper to go to europe on a ferry than to travel to the isle of wight prices should come down considering the distance the ferry actually travels

I was planning a week’s camping on the IOW but owing to the extortionate cost of a ferry I shall go elsewhere

Apart from the cost the same fare on all routes is clear evidence of collusion.

First..2′700 is not a great number, it is about 2% of the populatiuon (my vote has been added…has yours?)

secondly if coming to Island to camp, don’t bring a car, the fastcats etc are very reasonably priced and a lot cheaper than a Taxi to cover the same distance on land.

    What rubbish.
    Where is your evidence?
There are a few people who make up stories just to discredit the ferry companies led by the overweight DJ on IWradio.
I have just checked on Red Funnel website and a car & 2 passengers day return tomorrow departing at 07.00 returning at 16.00 is £32!
    Same journey with Wightlink £52.
    What are you on about?
