As well as the Jazz Festival taking place in Ventnor this weekend, the esplanade will also be welcoming the Vectis Astronomical Society as they take part in the 2nd International Sidewalk Astronomy Night.
The goal of the night is to take telescopes to the public on the same night worldwide, reaching hundreds of thousands of people and uniting amateur astronomers on different continents.
Weather and parking permitted, The Vectis group will be down on the seafront on Saturday night, so why not take a stroll down and have a guided tour of the skies?
The conditions have been perfect all week, so let’s hope they remain that way.

Well it all turned out very well Sal.
We had a couple of hours of really good sky and approx 130 people took a look through the telescopes.
Great views of the moon and of Saturn with its rings.
If only we’d thought to charge £1 for charity every time somebody said “Oh my god!” or “wow!”.
Thanks to all who showed an interest and glad you all seemed to enjoy it….
Cheers
