Those arty and whacky folk from iCandi are back in town at the end of the month and looking for some creative audience participation.
They’ll be back at Joe’s in Newport, but this time hosting a haunted iCandi party and would like you to dress up for the occasion.
There’ll be contemporary artwork from Paul Brown, Kitty Linnington, Adam Harvey, Kim Purton, Rachael Berry, Patrick E Wood, TDK and many more, as well as vinyl delights in the form of electronica, retro pop, funk, old school, dub and ambient lounge from Ghoulish Mystery Special Guest DJs!
On top of that the usual iCandi fun and games, plus frighteningly fantastic free gifts and costume competition.
If you hadn’t noticed, that’s Halloween night, so make sure you get your fancy dress ideas bubbling soon.
Order your pumpkins for 1am. Entrance is free.

whilst the excellent show nd bits shown by ICANDI @ joe’d'flo’s was of perhaps more contemprary bite than the usual public funded venues, the term and usage of ‘old skool’ here is seemingly again ironic given that the original thrust and ethical meaning has like many terms over the past ‘globalist’ decade been twisted into the same commercial reaffirmation of the ‘old school tie’ crap that the youth and social movements from an urban level were a defiance and rehumanisation of values and a non-commercial based declaration of human rights and liberation- that the mainstream bridled, found threat and then perverted to commercial advantage -sad example -IBIZA.
are not, sadly, my generation the ‘wall’ of hypocracy that demonises and prevents genuine youth empowerment and advanement for social cohesion?

People often ask me what I play when we advertise an R&B night and I try to think of stuff they may of heard of (or a covered badly by Girls loud)so I end up saying Otis Redding…to which the reply is ‘old school R&B’ at which point i get really annoyed and say ‘no real R&B not the crap pop songs that the Americans call R&B (which is neither rythm nor blues)in the charts for the last 10 years.
