COUNCIL TO TAKE SOUTH CENTRAL CONNEXIONS IN-HOUSE FROM APRIL

A service that offers advice and guidance to young people on everything from careers to staying healthy, will come under the control of Isle of Wight Council from 1 April.
South Central Connexions offers a service to all people aged between 13 and 19, or up to 25 for young people who have learning difficulties and disabilities.
As part of the transition, all existing staff based on the Island will transfer to the council to ensure minimum disruption. The Connexions Centre in Newport High Street will remain open and services will be unaffected.
Connexions Personal Advisers will also continue to offer services to young people through schools, the IW College and training providers. As part of the move to take South Central Connexions in-house, Isle of Wight Council will be able to access all existing data held by the organisation.
The council’s Director of Children’s Services Steve Beynon said “Connexions offers an important service to young people who may seek advice on a range of topics such as sexual health and money management. By taking the service in-house and employing existing staff reflects the council’s commitment to improving services for the Island’s young people. We are confident there will be little or no disruption during the transfer, so users can continue to access the resources offered by Connexions”.
The Connexions Centre on Newport High Street is open six days a week from 0930 on weekdays and from 1000 on Saturday’s.
