Council To Commemorate Former Staff Killed In WWII

Monday, 22nd October, 2007 at 2:51 pm, Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight Council is holding a commemoration service next month to honour those members of staff who lost their lives during World War II. A memorial plaque is currently displayed at County Hall showing the names of the seven council staff who were killed during WWII.

On 12 November at 1100, Canon Stephen Palmer from Newport’s Sts Thomas’s Church will conduct a service in front of the memorial plaque. Isle of Wight Council Chairman Cllr Roger Mazillius, Council Leader David Pugh, HM Lord-Lieutenant Major General Martin White and the High Sheriff Lt Col David Langford will attend the ceremony.

The remembrance service is being held following a request by Council Chairman Cllr Roger Mazillius who expects the service will become an annual event.
