Those fortunate to have sea views may have just noticed The Waverly paddle steamer passing Ventnor.
The paddle steamer has been unfortunate enough to have been involved in two collisions with piers over the last couple of weeks.
We’ve yet to take a trip on the paddle steamer ourselves, but it looked might fine from where we were standing.

Let’s hope this amazing weather holds out for Sunday 28th September when the Classic Car Run takes place on the Isle of Wight
Setting off from at Cowes Parade at 10am, it is anticipated that over 50 classic and vintage cars will take part in the run across the Island to help raise money for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.
If you have a classic car (that’s one over 20 years old) why not join the convoy - it’s all in a good cause and will only cost you £10 per car.

Wow, what a revelation.
On the Sunday of Bestival, we were looking for another method for getting to Bestival after having (just) got out of the car park on Saturday evening (man, did we sleep soundly that night!).
We opted to take the Bestival Bus after having heard good things about the service over the previous days.

If you’re planning a fast get away from Ventnor next week, make sure you plan your route beforehand, as two of the four roads out of town will have temporary traffic lights in place and you might find yourself delayed.

Don’t forget that a meeting is being held tonight in Ventnor to discuss the future of traffic and the Ventnor Esplanade.
If you’re interested in attending the meeting, pop along to the Balmoral Room at Ventnor Winter Gardens from 7pm.
The meeting has been arranged to update the public on the evaluation of the current road safety along the Esplanade and to discuss environmental concerns that have been expressed by those using the Esplanade.

A small number of roads around the Ventnor Esplanade have received letter drops this weekend, inviting them to a public meeting in two weeks time.
The letter states “that the local highway authority are in the process of evaluating a number of options to address current road safety and environmental concerns that have been expressed about Ventnor Esplanade.”
It was great to see the flag being flown again for the Isle of Wight last weekend.
Once again Vintage Vacations and Isle of Wight Campers featured in the national press with their holiday offerings making it into the ‘I’m a fan of the 1950s’ and ‘Travel in style’ categories.

Thanks to Stuart from the Island Bus Users Group for latest news on changes to the bus services affecting the Ventnor area. Ed
The summer bus timetable finishes earlier than usual this year on Saturday 30th August with just a few changes in the Ventnor area.
The peak summer Sunday journeys on Rail Link service 16 are withdrawn so there will be no Sunday bus service at all between the Botanic Gardens and St.Lawrence. There are no changes to services 3 & 31.
Service 6 sees additional morning journeys on weekdays with the first bus in each direction running an hour earlier than at present so that the first bus from Niton to Ventnor will be at 0906 and the first one from Ventnor to Newport via Niton will start from Pine Point at 0642.

Looks like Police PR is working on Saturday (sorry to hear that Dunc!). Here’s some actions that they carried out yesterday and we’re told that the results of it will come out next week - Ed.
Police are taking further action to detect and disrupt illegal supplies and sales of drugs on the Isle of Wight.
Specialist police officers, drugs dogs and their handlers were deployed to carry out passive searches of people getting on and off passenger ferry services at Ryde Pier Head on Friday, 15 August.

Here’s a great tip for drivers that Simon spotted from the Institute for Advanced Motorists Magazine recently.
Apparently, if you reverse into a parking space, you could save yourself possibly up to £2 per week on fuel, as well as practising safe driving procedures.
We read that if you reverse your car out of a space when the engine is cold, it uses around 20 to 25 times more petrol in the first few seconds than it does when warm and they tell us that average five year old car takes a minute and a half to warm up.

Whether we’re sitting at the desk, in the garden or just enjoying the wonderful views each day, we could easily set our clocks to the Number 31 Wightbus as it trundles past our window.
We’ve used it ourselves to get up to Wroxall, so that we can take a walk back over the Downs (can’t quite manage there and back on foot) and have always found the driver very polite and considerate - particularly for the many elderly folk who use the service to get into town.
