Just a quick reminder that the Ventnor Library’s Beach Poetry competition closes for entries on Saturday 19th July.
The competition is open to people from all parts of the Island and all ages.
The theme is rather aptly, The Beach, so why not head down there this week and get inspired. You could win a prize!

To celebrate Ventnor gaining its Blue Flag, the Library are running a poetry/lyric competition.
It’ll be open to people from all parts of the Island and all ages. There’ll be three classes; 12 and under, 12-24 and over 24. (more…)

Two exciting Blue Flag educational initiatives are about to be launched in Ventnor. It’s all part of the drive for Ventnor to gain Blue Flag status (we’ll be able to give you more news on that soon).
The Ventnor Partnership (which is a sub-set of the Ventnor Town Council) has joined forces with the Isle Wight Council’s Coastal Visitors Centre (CVC) to devise two valuable surveys, that will not only help discover how the beaches are used and can be improved, but will be a great educational tool for any children or young people who get involved.
It is hoped that residents, visitors and schools will help complete the surveys, one of which is on Beach Use and other on Rock Pool Habitat.

As we reminded you yesterday, Alan Titchmarsh will be launching the 2008 National Year of Reading this coming Friday and from Saturday all residents are invited to join the libraries all over the Wight.
If you’re not a member, you might not realise that you can borrow up to 30 books (and other things) at a time?

New High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight, Alan Titchmarsh will be launching the 2008 National Year of Reading.
Old Titters is in town at the the Lord Louis Library on Friday between 3.30-4.30.
The author, gardener, TV personality (and don’t forget - new High Sheriff) will be charming the crowds and parting with wise words on the subject of reading.

Adrian Coles of Kolzwerk has a new exhibition starting next week.
It is titled “Once I was a Papa” and dedicated to all fathers biological and non biological who have access problems.
The exhibition tells the story of a father, who for five years was told by an East European girl living on the Island that her child was his.
He discovers infact, that it the child was not his.

Are you looking for something to do with you 4-8 year old this coming Thursday?
If you’re kids love listening to stories then why not join others at Ventnor Library for a Terrible Tots Storytime.
It starts at 10.30 and lasts for just over an hour, finishing at 11.45am. Just giving you enough time to get home and put on the lunch.
This is absolutely free, and if you’ve been stuck in all week desperate to get out and meet others, here’s your chance.

Ventnor Library is currently hosting an exhibition of acrylic and oil paintings by Niton-based artist, Robert Jones.
The exhibition runs until the end of the month and can be found along the back wall of the Library.
All paintings are for sale and the landscapes range from St Catherine’s lighthouse to Arreton fields, Windy Corner, Ryde, Freshwater Bay and Alum Bay.

Yes folks, Ventnor Library is having a spring clean and hoping to offload some of their unwanted books on Sat 16th.
Check it out between 9.30-12.30. They close for a sarnie break re-open again between 1.30-4.00pm

Ventnor Library are holding another sessions next week where you can research your family history online.
Find out whether you might be a distant relative of the milk man or your local mayor on Wednesday 30th January.
The session lasts for two and a half hours and will only cost you a fiver.
You never know what treasures the knowledge might unearth.
