Well done to Magic Octagon who wowed the judges sufficiently last night to gain themselves a place on the Bandstand at the Isle of Wight Festival next month (yes, it’s only six weeks away).
Commiserations to the other finalists, The Kurves, The Shanklin Freak Show, Siniez and Kids Will Be Skeletons who we hear put in fantastic performances, making it all the harder for the judges to come to a decision. (more…)
It’s that time of year, when there are competitions galore to play at the Isle of Wight Festival and this weekend it’s the turn for the Wightnoize Auditions.
Although we don’t have a full programme of who is playing, we do know that you can expect to see The Emily Jane Band, Skyline Heroes and Goodbye Stereo amongst others.
With industry experts on the judging panel, offering constructive feedback to the bands, this is a great opportunity for talented Island musicians, with the potential prize of playing at the festival being an added bonus. (more…)
The final of the battle of the bands took place at Medina last night and Ventnorian teenagers, Kosmik Debris wowed the judges sufficiently to take first place.
We are bowled over for the 15 and 16 year olds from Ventnor who we first saw play a couple of years ago at the Ventnor Youth Centre, when the music suite was officially opened.
They went on to play at the Ventnor Day Festival in 2006 and we hear have gone from strength to strength. (more…)
If you weren’t able to get hold of a ticket for the Isle of Wight Festival before they sold out, you might be in with another chance, courtesy of the new main sponsor this year, BT.
Each day on the BT website, 500 more tickets will be up for grabs (if you cough up £130 that is).
This offer lasts until the 18 April, that’s Friday next week.
We read in the Guardian today that ITV2 has won the rights to broadcast footage from the Isle of Wight Music Festival this year.
It’s a shame to see the festival leave the confines of terrestrial Channel 4.
Given that ITV2 is only available via satellite (don’t have it), cable (don’t have it), or freeview (which we can’t get down here in Ventnor) looks like we won’t be watching any of the TV coverage this year
Virtual Festivals, one of the most comprehensive websites related to festivals in the UK and abroad has recently compiled their top ten list of festival.
With only 70 days to go, and completely sold out, we notice that the Isle of Wight Festival has made it to number 8 in the hallowed list. (more…)
John Giddings is putting a positive spin on Lily Allen cancelling her appearance at the Isle of Wight Festival - and getting a mention of the Eco-Island initiative in there too. (more…)
We heard the name of the main sponsor of the IW Festival back at xmas time. We’ve been totally torn between our loyalty to the friend who told us and letting all of you super peeps know.
In this instance, blood has been thicker than Blog, but, you’ll only have to wait a little while longer.
Tune back on at midnight on Sunday to find out who it is.
We see in the County Press that results were in at the end of last week for the winners of round two of the Live Wired competition.
Well over 2000 people voted for their favourite bands in the latest round of the competition, the prize of which is to win a slot at the IW Festival and a weekend recording session at Platform One. (more…)
Latest just in from IW Festival HQ is a call for punters to contribute stories and recipes for a new book.
Apparently a new cook book is being produced by Andy LoRusso, The Singing Chef, who will also be performing at this year’s IW Festival in the new Big Top tent. (more…)
Following in the footsteps of success, it appears that IW Festival are taking a leaf out of Rob Da Bank’s book and this year will be including a Big Top tent at The IW Festival.
The new tent will hold up to 5,000 music lovers come rain or shine and they’ve got some great bands lined up, including The Stranglers and Welsh rockers, Feeder.
However, we nearly choked on our rosy lee when we heard the news that Sugarbabes are to headline on Saturday night in the Big Top tent.
Let me get this clear, the Sugarbabes? At a rock festival? Erm?

Another bunch of acts have today been announced for the IW Festival being held over 13th, 14th and 15th June this year.

Great news for any KC fans as they are confirmed to headline Friday night at IW Festival.
It’s ten years since they formed up in Leeds and they’re still going strong, having worked their way up to being top bananas on the indie scene.
The Isle of Wight Festival takes place next summer over the weekend of 13/14/15th June. If you want to splash out £75 you can become a member of Festival First, which guarantees you being able to buy two camping tickets over the next three years.
Yes folks it’s true. According to the IW Radio news report just aired, organisers hadn’t planned to announce the band until next week, but band members Steve Jones let the cat out of the bag on an LA radio station. The Pistols will be Saturday headliners at the festival which takes place on 13th, 14th & 15th June 2008.
If you want to relive some of that pistol magic before next summer watch on …. warning - not work/child/royalist friendly
News out this morning from IW Festival site tells us that The Police will be Sunday headliners at next year’s IW Festival. Here’s a look at their first ever TV performance, back in 1978 on The Old Grey Whistle Test.
