More interesting requests arrive in our inbox today.
Not for the first time, we’ve been asked if we know any window cleaners in the Ventnor area.
It seems that many people are guarding their window cleaners and not sharing the love. If you’re a window cleaner or know of one that fancies adding some more clients to their list, requests have come from Upper Gills Cliff Road, Castle Road and Madeira Road. Get in touch with us and we’ll pass on your details.
Hopefully the windows won’t be quite as high as the Spinnaker Tower as shown in this pic by Matt Seller.

Next Monday sees the Ventnor Town Council consider the latest planning applications in the area.
In a change to how these meetings previously took place, there is now a chance for the public to make statements before the meeting commences on any application being discussed at that particular meeting.
This follows the request for public representation at these meetings from Ventnor resident, Dennis Russell which was discussed and agreed by Councillors last month. (more…)

One of the central complaints about PFI scheme the country over, is that lots of the money ‘raised’ though PFI is drained away in paying PFI experts and consultants.
Reading a delegated decision notice published by the IW council today, it appears that the first stop for the PFI Gravy Train will be County Hall.
The Isle of Wight Council plans to put aside £3million to get to the point where the roads project can start work - yes, you read that right, START. (more…)

Given the ongoing price hikes of petrol and diesel (oil is approaching $134 per barrel) and news that the Isle of Wight has the most expensive in the UK we thought you’d appreciate regular updates on the cheapest (non supermarket) petrol stations.
We’ll give you updates as and when we can, but hope to keep it fairly regular.

One thing we’d like to make very clear, is that although we, and others, were openly against the planning application for Cheetah Marine to construct a boat building factory on the esplanade car park — the land that they will be able to buy from the council for £100k — when permission was granted last April, we said “OK, it’s gone through, there’s nothing more we can do, except wish their business well and hope that the development will contribute to the regeneration of Ventnor.”

Many people believe that a strong community is a what makes a town successful (and certainly we agree that it plays a big part), but it is often forgotten that businesses are crucial to the survival of a town too.
Ventnorians might remember that we attended the first official meeting of the newly formed Ventnor Business Forum at the end of March.
We were very impressed with the work carried out over the previous months and intentions for the coming year.
The time has come for the Ventnor Business Forum to hold their first general meeting and it takes place at the beginning of next month. (more…)

The variety of recommendations is wide, from dressmakers to builders, aga servicing to pest control.
Because of this, we’ve decided to break out some of these recent posts and start a new board called Recommendations?.

Regular users of the VentnorBlog discussion forum will know that for some time, we’ve a free ads section, where members can freely post items for sale.
In the past, users have had to be logged on to be able to see the ads or post replies.
We’ve scrapped that rule now, and as of today anyone can read the free ads board, thereby hopefully opening it up to a wider audience!

After reading on the VentnorBlog forum that the Ventnor Business Forum would be meeting last night, we thought it would be great to go along and be able to report back on the good work that has been taking place over the last year to help keep Ventnor on the up!
And we have to say that it was well worth a couple of hours on a Monday night. The meeting took place at the Thistle Cafe in Pier Street, with refreshments generously provided by Wendy.

The many friends of Mr and Mrs Gibbs and their band of jolly chums know this already, as will those of you who saw the three page advertorial in the CP last week (that’s if you didn’t already turn up on Easter Saturday as was said in the piece), but just incase you didn’t know - there’s a bash on at the SpyGlass today to celebrate it’s 20th anniversary.
There’s music running from 12 this afternoon ’til midnight - and all for free. Can’t be bad - and highly likely to be a great laugh, if the little of what we saw of beaujolais day is anything to go by!

Following recent Post Office Closures on the Isle of Wight and widespread concern about the process, The Island’s MP Andrew Turner MP took the opportunity to raise the issue during a Commons debate.
Following the announcement that ten sub-post office branches will close on the Island, and a further fifty others in Hampshire the whole issue of consultation has been called into question.
