Annual Town Meeting Tonight
Monday, 21st April, 2008 at 6:34 pm, Isle of Wight
Ventnor Residents don’t forget that tonight at 7pm, the Ventnor Town Council meets for the Annual Town Meeting.
It’s an opportunity to hear what has the TC and other organisations in Ventnor have been up to over the last year.
There will also be an opportunity for the public to raise issues with the Town Council (although this was less than clear in the agenda we were sent a couple of weeks ago). Takes place in the main hall from 7pm.

It was good to see so many interested Ventnor residents at last nights meeting. Our Simon, of blog fame, raised the question of whether Town Council meetings could be audio recorded and available on the blog. I will vote against this when the proposal comes to council because I consider it will actually stiffle debate and encourage separate discussions to be held on trickly issues. I will however push for much fuller minutes to be taken. Maybe not as verbatum as Freshwater Parish Council.

but giving comments and opinions which don’t actually arrive at formal resolutions.
However, on reflection, the full audio record could be a cure for insomnia!

Insomnia! That explains why John Farrant fell asleep during the meeting!

Recording the meetings, nice idea, but the town clerk made himself clear at the meeting. When the question was raised he immediately shook his head saying out loud “No recordings”.
Good to see Simon push for an agreement from the Mrs Scoccia that it would be discussed. Not that I think it’ll make much difference.

Well done to the tall chap who asked about the town plan - I think the mayor and whoever the other councillor was who answered the question missed the point. It wasn’t about producing a glossy document, it was about the substance of the contents. They said it is a living document, let’s hope so and that it grows pretty quickly. From what I saw, there is very little to it.

“I consider it will actually stiffle debate”
Not only that,it would ensure an accurate record was kept of what was actually said and we wouldn’t want that would we?
